Within each field there is certain jargon. That is why we have explained the most commonly used terms in the media monitor below.
Dashboard
Below is an overview of the terms found on the dashboard page.

Authors | The author of the message. |
Messages | A list of the latest posts based on the search query. |
Dashboard | The dashboard screen is the landing page of the Media Monitor. The purpose of this screen is to quickly find, compare and interpret data through selecting entering searches and selecting filters. |
Dashboard overview | This is a summary of the dashboard. |
Filter overview | The available filters in Media Monitor. |
Platform | A platform is a digital environment where people can communicate, share information, collaborate, etc. Online platforms include Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. |
Sentiment | Show the average of the different sentiments: positive, neutral and negative. |
Tagcloud | The tag cloud shows the most relevant terms across all searches. |
Volume | The volume graph shows the number of messages from the searches. On the horizontal axis, the date is displayed. The vertical axis shows the number of messages. |
Reports
Below is an overview of the terms related to creating a report.

Dashboard view | In a report, there are two different views: 'Dashboard' and 'Data view'. Dashboard view shows the data in the charts set in the report. |
Data view | In a report, there are two different views: 'Dashboard' and 'Data view'. Data view shows the messages within the set date from the main search query(s) of the report. |
Share with co-workers | Share the report with colleagues within the same role in OBI Media Monitor. |
Save as PDF | The report is exported as a PDF file. |
Public URL | With a public URL, the report can be shared with people without the recipients needing a login to OBI Media Monitor. The report is shared publicly and is not editable. |
Report | A report gives one insight into a situation/topic using various widgets. Reports are based on a query. |
Report overview | The 'report overview' page lists all existing reports that the user has access to. |
Widgets | All graphs possible to add in a report. |
Alerts
Below is an overview of terms related to creating an alert.
Terms | Definition |
Alert | A notification of any new incoming message. An alert is set on a query and the notification is sent to an e-mail address. |
Alerts overview | The page 'alerts overview' provides an overview of all existing alerts in the Media Monitor. |
Frequency | The frequency of an alert emphasizes how often the alert should be sent to the set e-mail address. |
Recipients | The recipient of the alert is the e-mail address to which the alert should be sent. |
Status | The status of an alert indicates whether the alert is active (green) or inactive (red). |
Newsletter
Below is an overview of terms related to creating a newsletter.

Content: nieuwsbrief | It is possible to create a newsletter from a report with the content type 'newsletter'. If the newsletter is set to this content type, a newsletter is sent with the latest messages of the query/queries of the the report. With the messages there is a link to open the messages on the source. |
Content: PDF | It is possible to create a newsletter from a report with the content type 'PDF'. If the newsletter is set to this content type, the report will be sent in a PDF file to the recipients. The newsletter also includes a link to open the report in Media Monitor. |
Nieuwsbrief | A newsletter is an automated report. The newsletter provides an opportunity to structurally inform stakeholders/colleagues of the reports. |
Status | The status of a newsletter indicates whether the newsletter is active (green) or inactive (red). |
Search query
Below is an overview of the terms that can be found on the page 'Queries overview'.

Search query | A search query is a word or combination of words used to obtain relevant results. |
Query overview | The 'Query overview' page provides an overview of all Media Monitor searches. |
Filters
Below is an overview of all available filters and what these filters mean.
Term | Definition |
Provider | The filter 'provider' allows filtering on a particular source provider, for example ANP. |
Author | The filter 'author' allows filtering on an author. The authors to choose from depends on the result of the search. |
Authors list | The filter 'author list' allows filtering for an author from an author list. The author lists can be found under 'author lists overview'. |
Post type | The filter 'post type' allows filtering on different post types: a comment, a shared post or a comment. |
Source | The filter 'source' allows filtering on the source of a post. The sources to choose from depend on the result of the search. |
Source type | The filter 'platform' allows filtering on source types. |
Content type | This filter allows filtering on sources that are public and sources that are premium. Premium sources are paid sources (ANP, Lexisnexis, RTV, MIG) and only available if purchased. |
Sentiment | With the filter 'sentiment' it is possible to filter on sentiment. The sentiment can be positive, negative or neutral. |
Language | The 'language' filter allows you to filter on different languages. |
Tag | With the filter 'tag' you can filter on a tag from the tagcloud. The tags that can be selected depend on the result of the query. |
Main query | Only applicable as a filter in a graph in a report.The main query is the main search of the graph. The additional query filter overlays the additional query over the main query. |
Additional Query | Only applicable as a filter in a chart in a report.With the filter 'additional query', the additional query is superimposed over the main query. |
Website | With the filter 'website', a website can be filtered. The websites to choose from depends on the result of the search. |
Widgets
Below is an overview of all available widgets and what these widgets mean.

Authors | The total volume of posts from a specific author of the given search and filters used. |
Reach | Reach is the number of potential views of a brand or campaign.PostsA list of the latest posts on all set searches |
Messages | A list of the latest posts on all set searches. |
Media value | The formula we use to calculate media value is: (EditorialValue * CPM) * (reach/30) / 1000. This formula only applies to social media and online media. Regarding offline media, our partners' media value formula applies. |
Notes | An empty notes field to add additional information to the report. |
Overview | The 'overview' widget displays the following data in a table: set search query(s), associated volume and top 3 platforms. |
Platforms | Shows which platforms the posts are coming from. |
Sentiment | Shows the average of the different sentiments: positive, neutral and negative. The chart is set to automatic sentiment by default, but can also be set to manual sentiment. |
Handmatig sentiment | The sentiment of a post after the automatic sentiment has been manually adjusted. |
Tagcloud | The tagcloud shows the most relevant terms across all searches. |
Tiles | The 'tiles' widget displays the following data in tiles: total volume, total number of authors, total platforms and number of posts with positive, negative and neutral sentiment. |
Volume | The volume graph shows the number of posts from searches. On the horizontal axis, the date is displayed. The vertical axis shows the number of messages. |
Query matching | This graph allows you to overlay a search query over the main search of the report. You can then see how many messages in that combination can be found online. |
Topic Generator |
The Topic Generator shows topics that are associated with the entered search query. This is done by AI. The Topic Generator works using the AI technique Machine Learning. Using relationships between text and text structuring, we determine whether parts of an article belong together.
If enough text within an article shows similarities, it will be joined together in a topic.
Some conditions: - Volume of the search must be at least 1000 posts - Volume of the search max max 20,000 posts |
