Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)

In this article, we explain how to activate 2FA (Two-Factor Authentication) for your environment.

  • Step 1 is for the administrator; they need to activate 2FA in the General Settings.
  • Step 2 consists of instructions for setting up the 2FA application for a user.

Please note that once 2FA is activated for an environment, it cannot be turned off. Users will need to continue logging in through the 2FA authentication.

Step 1: Activating 2FA (administratior)

In the Settings --> General settings, you will see the option 'Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)' Here, you enter the start date to activate 2FA from that moment. Choose a start date in the future to give users the chance to install and link the 2FA authenticator application.

The field where you enter the start date looks like this:

If the start date has passed, and a user has not yet linked the application, you can set a different deadline for each user. This gives the user extra time to link the 2FA authenticator.

You can set this up via ---> Settings ---> Users ---> Edit.

Step 2: Setting up the 2FA application for a user.

Once 2FA is activated, users will see an option in the menu bar after they log in again, called 'Two-Factor Authentication (2FA).'

Through this menu, users can link their 2FA application to Engage. Every user needs to do this. If you don't do this before the start date, you won't be able to log in.

When users click on the option, you'll arrive at this page:

Here, you can link the 2FA application. Start by giving a name to the device you will use for 2FA verification. Choose a recognizable name so that you can remember which device the application is installed on. If you install the 2FA application on your phone, you can choose the name of your phone (e.g., brand or model) (Samsung of...).

Once you've chosen the name for your device, click on ADD. Now you will see a QR-code. Open the 2FA application and scan the QR-code with the 2FA application.

After scanning the code, a line will become active in the application. Under this line, a 6-digit code will appear. This code changes every 15 to 30 seconds.

Engage: 'username'

You can now enter the verification code (6-digit code) below the QR-code. After that, click on 'verify.' Don't wait too long to press 'verify' because the code is only available for 15 to 30 seconds. If you wait too long, the entered code will expire. If that happens, you can enter the new code displayed by the authenticator app.

If the device is successfully linked, you will see it added to the devices:

You have now linked your device and can use the 2FA application once it is active in the environment (depending on the set date). Once 2FA is activated for an environment, it cannot be turned off. Users must continue to log in through the 2FA authentication.
