How do I use social listening to monitor conversations?

With the Social Listening feature in Spotler Engage, you can monitor social media conversations and manage your online reputation. You can review comments under postings directly from your most-used views, such as Dashboard and Reports, and open the related post for context.

On this page you can read about the following topics:

Where can I view comments under postings?

You can view comments under postings from:

  • Dashboard postings
  • Report postings

In these views, you can open a posting and review the comment thread to understand what people are reacting to and how the conversation develops.

How do I open the original post?

  1. Open Dashboard or Reports and locate the posting you want to review.
  2. Click View comments to open the comment thread for that posting.
  3. If you want to view the original post above the comments, click the arrow to expand the post.

How do comments from public sources work?

Comments can come from different types of sources, depending on how your environment is configured:

  • Comments under postings from your own connected social media accounts.
  • Public Facebook comments retrieved from public pages that are added as sources for monitoring.

Public comments retrieved from added sources are primarily intended for analysis in Media Monitor, such as volume trends, sentiment analysis, and content patterns.

Important

Public Facebook comments retrieved from added sources are available for analysis only. Interaction such as replying, liking, or moderating is not supported in Webcare.

Limitations

The way comments are displayed and linked can vary per source. For example, Facebook may not provide stable direct links to individual comments when data is retrieved from public sources. In those cases, Spotler Engage links to the original post instead of the specific comment.

If you want to interact with a public comment, open the original post directly on the social network and perform the interaction there.

Please note

The Social Listening feature is not available through a public URL.

Frequently asked questions

Why can’t I reply to some Facebook comments?

Comments retrieved from public Facebook pages that are added as monitoring sources are available for analysis only. To reply or like, open the original post on Facebook.

Why do I see comments even when my organisation is not mentioned?

Public comments can appear when they match your configured monitoring queries and keywords. This can include discussions where your organisation is discussed without being tagged.

Why does a comment link sometimes open the post instead of the exact comment?

Some sources do not provide stable direct links to individual comments when data is retrieved from public sources. In those cases, Spotler Engage links to the original post for context.

Why can't I export comments?

You can view and analyse comments within the Media Monitor itself. It is not possible to export this data.
