Introduction:
This article tells you which Boolean Operators you can use in the Media Monitor.
| AND | AND is used to display posts that satisfy all words. For example, (social AND media AND monitoring) displays only posts that contain all 3 words. |
| OR | OR is used to display posts that match one or more words. For example, (social OR media OR monitoring) displays posts that contain one of these words. |
| NOT |
NOT is used to exclude words in the search query. This can be done in 2 ways, example 1: socialmedia NOT vacancy NOT monitoring or example 2: socialmedia NOT vacancy OR monitoring. In both cases, all posts containing the word socialmedia are displayed only if the words vacancy and monitoring are not mentioned. |
| ( ) | Brackets are optional in the above examples but recommended especially for more complex searches. For example: (social AND media) OR (monitoring AND tool) returns posts containing either the words 'social' and 'media' or posts containing the words 'monitoring' and 'tool'. By using the parentheses, you group 2 different searches within the query field. |
| Mention of @ | Mentions are displayed by searching on an account name with a mention sign in front of it. For example: @spotler or mention:spotler. |
| Hashtag of # | Hashtags used in posts retrieve by putting a hashtag in front of a word. For example: hashtag:socialmedia or #socialmedia. All posts containing #socialmedia will be displayed. |
| " " |
Double quotes are used to search for exactly the same combination of words and/or punctuation marks. Putting multiple words in double quotes will only show posts in which the words are in exactly the same order. For example, "social media monitoring," returns only posts in which these 3 words are in exactly the same order. If you search separately on these 3 words, for example: (social media monitoring), it returns posts where the 3 keywords appear somewhere in the text. So this can also be in a different order. |
| Wildcard of * | Placing an asterisk (wildcard) after or before a word will give you all the outputs immediately following that word. For example, OBI* results in messages containing 'OBI4wan' but also 'obiwankanobi'. Note that you can only use a wildcard with a minimum of 3 letters. |
| User |
User use to see messages posted from an account's name, or when you want to search for an author in editorial media:
Note: If a punctuation mark is used in an account name you should put the account name in quotes, for example: user: "alex_ruiter", because a dash is also a separator. |
| Account |
Operator account: searches for all posts from an associated Social Media account in Spotler Engage.
|
| Language | You can search for a language or filter out languages by adding a country code in the search. To filter by language, enter the following combination after a query: ... AND lang:en (for English) or ... AND lang:de (for German) etc. To exclude messages in a particular language you add the following combination at the end of the search: ... NOT lang:en (for English) or ... NOT lang:de (for German). |
| Site | Als je alle berichten van een website wilt zien kun je zoeken op de volledige url. site:www.nu.nl levert bijvoorbeeld alle berichten op van deze website. Dit kun je combineren met andere zoekwoorden. Bijvoorbeeld: spotler AND site:www.nu.nl levert de berichten op van nieuwssite www.nu.nl op waarin spotler is genoemd. |

|
| Label |

Search example: You search by label: "testlabel". That's the main label with no levels. If you want to search on the first sublabel, you search with: If you want to search a label of the second sublevel you use label:"testlabel/test1label/test2label" You can also search on multiple labels at the same time. You then use the OR or AND operator between the two label names as in other searches: label:(label1 OR label2) or label:(label1 AND label2) |
