How does comments from Facebook Ads work?

Do you place Facebook advertisements and would you like to monitor the comments on them? In this article, you will learn how. It is possible to distinguish comments on Facebook ads from comments on a normal post.

Note! The Facebook Advertising account must be linked to Engage, and this can only be done if the Ad account is also linked to the FB Business Manager and the Facebook account already linked to Spotler Engage. Look for more information here: Add Advertising Accounts in Business Manager)

Step-by-step plan

  1. To load comments under a Facebook Ad, it is important to have a linked Facebook Advertising account.

  2. It is possible to distinguish comments on Facebook ads from comments on a normal post. This can be done by adding the operator platform: "Facebook ad"  to a search query.

    "accountname" AND platform:"facebook ad"

Advertisement Status

With the linked Facebook Advertising account, all active ads are retrieved. The only thing the linked Facebook Advertising account can do is allow us to use it to retrieve customer comments from Facebook. You cannot edit the ads themselves. Once you have added the Facebook Advertising account, customer responses can come into Engage. Every 15 minutes, our system retrieves the messages.

Due to those 15 minutes, our system may not yet realize that the 'advertisement status' of a message has changed (because the message has just been promoted, or an ad has been 'restarted'). This can explain why you sometimes don't see a reaction in the ad search.

Real-time Data

The Facebook ad stream only works for posts that we get in real-time from Facebook, and these ads must come from a linked Facebook account. Posts that we retrieve later by periodically updating pages are not included.

We also do not adjust the platform property once a post is in our system. So even if we find out after 15 minutes that something was indeed an ad, we will not retrospectively update the earlier reactions.

Promoting vs. Advertising

On Facebook, there are two ways to increase paid reach.

The main difference between promoting a post and advertising is the amount of time it takes to display a paid post on Facebook and the capabilities that come with it. For more information, see here: The difference between boosted posts and Meta ads

Note! It is not possible to track sponsored posts in your environment because they are sponsored in the Meta environment of your Facebook account. It is only possible to monitor Facebook ad posts from a Facebook Advertising account. Comments on a sponsored post are loaded, so you can respond to these comments.
