It is possible (in certain cases) to edit the link preview when creating Facebook content. However, there are some conditions that must be met before editing the link preview is possible. This article describes them.
- What is a link preview?
- When can I edit a link preview?
- When can not edit a link preview?
- How do I verify my domain in Facebook?
- How to use the link preview for LinkedIn
What is a link preview?
A link preview is the clickable spot on a Facebook post that appears when you add a link. You will then see an image, title and description appear below your post (this is clickable on Facebook). In the example below, it's the bottom part of the post.
When can I edit a link preview?
It is possible to edit a link if the account (page) you select to publish owns the link you paste into the content. Facebook checks this through domain verification. This means that the link (the domain) is verified in the Facebook Business manager of this account (page). More information on the last step (and how to verify a domain) can be found here.
When can I not edit a link preview?
It is not possible to edit a link preview if the account you select does not own (in Facebook) the link you pasted into the content.
How do I verify my domain in Facebook?
If you own a website but cannot edit the link preview it is because the domain has not been verified in Facebook Business Manager. More information on how to verify a domain in Facebook Business Manager can be found here.
